During class we went through everyone's egg assignment and then some of us showed our color books and Beth asked us what we feel is the reason why we are using color books as a required textbook in the class. There are many reason why I think we are using color books. One reason is that it shows us that an assignment can be creative and fun, without it being all business or all technical. Another reason it shows us that we can be kids at some times. It allows us to be a kid and not be so serious and be creative with the assignment. Another reason why we have a coloring book is for Beth to pick on us and enjoy seeing our perspective on things, like what we wish the world could be. I really don't think that there is one clear cut reason why she is requiring us to have a coloring book and use it, but it is a nice addition and something that is "outside the box". I really hate coloring and doodling, so doing this is something I am a little weary about, but I really think that I will enjoy it at the end of it, especially when I get to use a dog coloring book, as I feel like I am a dog at times, something I will talk about when the "who am I and why am I here" assignment.
The 4 words, serendipity, surrender, spontaneity, and synchronicity also has something to do with the coloring book, as all four is already used when the book was created and it will be used when our assignments are given, like the "tear a page out and give to a fellow classmate". Thanks!

When coming to the first class of Seeing Sideways, I was really nervous and very excited at the same time. I am always nervous, so this is to be expected, but what we talked about really help improve my knowledge of what we need to do in the class. During our only break, our only rules were, we were no allowed to get up from our seat and we had to go outside the class room, so a group of us went inside an elevator and went down it and rolled to the bigger elevator and went up and down it for a bit and then I went to the bathroom (got out of the seat of course, as that was the only stipulation of the rule) and went back to class. This taught me to do something out of the ordinary and something that I want to do that I know I shouldn't (very very bad social anxiety). It helped me be creative by showing me that you can do something different (out of the norm) and that will help spark creativity.
Later we watched a video and at the end of it, they talked about fishbowling. I thought, do fish really bowl? I know they really cant, but that is something creative for a video that would be interesting to watch, but it is limiting your decisions to some, so it is easier to pick an idea, aka when Beth talked about doing something with "dancing" when it comes to the egg experiment. I think that I need more fishbowling in my life. I always have had assignments where I could create any website, any video, any photoshop project, any illustrator project, any lab, any anything and I cannot make up my mind. It's even hard for me to pick something to eat at times, so fishbowling would help me a lot in my creative mind. Like for the egg assignment, I am gonna try to fishbowl a few ideas and stick to it. I even kindof got an idea already down for an thing I wanna do! I hope it turns out ok!!! I never thought that I would ever write a blog or have a website for blogging, but here I am. This is a required part for one of my classes. I am nervous, but excited to get this class started. I am going to learn so much and be apart of a class like no other. Yippee!
